On Vacation in Borrego

Borrego Springs, California: We survived the first night aboard our new little RV. We slept well, the mattress is super firm (going to order a fluffy mattress pad), we learned to turn the water heater off (it was turning noisily on/off at random times). I had to text Woody yesterday to learn how to lock the front door of this rig (Kathy & Woody have the same RV - Navion 24D - a few years older). He then began texting with several tips/products for living our best life onboard, and suggested I join Navion 24D Facebook groups. It's a learning curve.

For now, we are just trying to remember where the light switches are located!

My Driver rode his bike all over Borrego Springs this morning for his usual exercise, but also to see how things have changed since our last visit several months ago. Everything was looking good to him. I did not walk this morning, as we had a tee time and knew walking 18 holes would be more than enough exercise for this old gal. Before we went up to the clubhouse to check-in for golf, I whipped-up a bit of "left-overs" for our brunch: St. Paddy's Day corned beef chunks from the freezer, along with a few pre-cooked potatoes. Corned Beef Hash? It was very satisfying and apparently there are these things called paper plates that require no dish washing?

Good thing too. Still cannot find the dishwasher in this RV.

The Springs at Borrego RV Resort golf course is pretty fun. They only have nine holes, so we played the course twice. About $60 each, with a cart. There was a bit of a slow-down between the people playing 9 holes and the people playing 18 holes (always an issue on a 9-hole course), but we still finished in 3.5 hours, with a nice man (Matt) joining on the second third hole. Made the waiting time pass quickly.

This mountain top supposedly looks like the head of an American Native?

After our round of golf, we went to the hot tub. Even though it was 85 degrees, my joints needed the natural hot springs at this resort more than the (very crowded Spring Break) swimming pool. This RV resort also has tennis, pickle ball, a spa, and all sorts of activities - concerts, BBQ's, weenie roasts, S'more parties... etc. Today they had a corn hole championship.

After our soak, I took a shower in our teeny RV. It is fine for me, as I am five feet tall. My six-foot Driver has a bit of ducking to do (but that's okay, he's a Duck, right?). There was plenty of water pressure and plenty of hot water. As I said, It's a learning curve.

5 o'clock Happy Hour

Our cocktails were served precisely at 5p, per usual. However, I am now enjoying my martini in a plastic stemless martini glass. (Well, it may be plastic, but it is at least one ounce larger than my fancy Waterford crystal martini glass at home... so that is always a good thing, right?) NOTE: the nuts are some-sort of fig-coated cashews. Mamahuhu.

But dinner tonight was very good. One of my go-to meals. So easy. Wash some arugula, slice some baby or cherry tomatoes, drizzle a bit of balsamic vinaigrette over, and top with a sauteed chicken cutlet. Lemon wedge garnish. I dredged the cutlets in flour, salt, white pepper, onion powder and garlic powder.

A meal on a plate (this time not paper)

Though we are also consumed with March Madness and watching too many games on TV, we will head home in the morning... because we are going to LA to fetch Leo and Lucile. We will have them for about 10 days (TBD) over their Spring Break, and we are bringing them back to this RV resort (but I will be following in the Chevy Traverse - loaded with bicycles, golf clubs and who-knows-what).

I know it has only been two days, but I think this teeny RV will suit us well for the shorter-term travels we now plan.

Until my next update, I remain, your Borrego Springs correspondent.

  1. Strawberries 🍓 already? Sounds like the shake down trip was a success!
Will the four of you spend 10 days at Borrego? Might get a little cozy but some one could sleep in the Traverse!
