Antigua

St. Johns, Antigua (British Leeward Islands): I knew it was going to be a good day when I stepped out to our balcony this morning and heard Jimmy Buffett music coming from the pool deck above. We were quickly joined by a sister ship, the Caribbean Princess, and also the Costa Pacifica. A busy day in this port.

With three ships in port, this was probably the best day to go to the beach. Lisa arranged for a van and driver for the day. Gregory first took us to a beach near town or a cool-off.

Warm water!

Next we had a very interesting drive down island to English Bay, where Admiral Nelson was stationed (before he was an Admiral or a Lord) at dockyards where ships could be outfitted and repaired. The surrounding bays are surrounded with gorgeous beaches, silky sand, and every manner of hotels, restaurants, and beach cabanas. Lisa had even arranged a lunch reservation at Loose Canon.

After a nice swim, we went to the restaurant for really good lunches - ordering many different things to try.

Of course, Lucile and I split fish & chips.

The fries were the best I’ve eaten in a long while. They tasted like potatoes (not oil). Desserts included ice cream (from Dominica), a sundae with Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream and tropical fruits with merengue, and then… baked cookie dough… which Lenny figured must be… wait for it - a cookie? But it turned out to be cookie dough baked in a teeny skillet, served with more ice cream.

Cabana life

We had such a great day at the beach, swimming in the warm sea, admiring the yachts and sailboats in the little bay. There may or may not have been a cannonball contest from one of the diving platforms anchored off shore.

There are more photos to post, but we are back on board and I am afraid the internet will disappear any moment, so will post this update ahead of schedule. (Excuse any typos and I hope all the photos appear.) The next two days will be spent at sea, so there will be no more excursions (we hope!), but I will still be keeping my journal (because I keep this journal for my records), and more photos to post. I just don't know when. We dock in Miami on the 7th - early morning.

Until my next update, I remain, "the Captain is blowing the Love Boat theme-song horn now" correspondent.
