Rainy Day in Honolulu

Honolulu, Hawaii: We woke to pouring rain on Waikiki Beach. Mind you, it was 75°, but socked-in with clouds. Not having to check-out until 4p, and not wanting to waste our “free” breakfast vouchers, we dressed and went to the breakfast area on the beach of the hotel to wait 30 minutes to be seated. (The hotel is completely full.)

The hotel is famous for their pink pancakes, so why not? Not a real lover of pancakes, I didn’t want to miss this legendary treat. But when delivered and tasted, realized they were just pancakes that were pink! (Everything in this hotel is pink.) Our waiter told us they were dyed pink with organic beet powder. At least I now know how to make pink pancakes. They tasted just like pancakes not made with buttermilk. Also, they sell bags of pink pancake mix in the gift shop… so there ya go.) Nothing fancy and would not order them again. The toasted coconut and whipped cream on the top were the only redeeming qualities… except that the pancakes were pink and I was at the Royal Hawaiian eating breakfast on the beach. With a mimosa.

The rain stopped as we finished brunch. We walked down to the water line, and snapped tourist photos.

The kids arrived to another Waikiki Beach resort, so we packed up and headed there. We have adjoining rooms, each with two queen beds. Lucile has already claimed one of our beds, but the grandkids argued all evening about who would join us. Verdict is still out at press time.

Nice room!

Our room has a balcony/patio with two chairs. It faces the hotel next door.

The six of us had dinner in the hotel, and Lisa told the server we were celebrating two 70th birthdays. Little lies.

So yummy - sticky toffee pudding

After dinner, the kids hung out in our room and watched mindless television.

So cute

Lisa has planned a full-day adventure for us tomorrow, one that may be some-what involved with my family history.

Until my next update, I remain, your rainy correspondent.
