Borrego Springs, California: We went to the RV garage a few days ago to check her out and turned on the fridge in prep for a quick weekend trip. Our golf course is STILL closed. Due to the persistent hot weather, the grounds crew were unable to get the grass ready for course play on schedule, so we went into a holding pattern. They did let us finally make tee times for next week, so that is a good omen. (We still have to pay our dues though!)
Wanting to golf and wanting to give the RV some exercise, we loaded up Saturday morning and drove the quick trip to Borrego Springs, stopping at La Casa del Zorro for a lovely lunch before checking into our campsite at The Springs at Borrego RV Resort & Golf Course. Lovely lunch as in we were the only patrons in the pretty restaurant - all the hotel guests were being herded onto shuttles buses to be delivered to a wedding. (We were not invited.)

After setting up camp, and remembering which switch worked what, we prepped for the Oregon v Maryland football game. I remembered how to set up the satellite dish, refreshed the equipment and actually was able to get the game without having to phone customer service. (I keep step-by-step notes on this procedure as it is different at every location with the RV/traveler package we have with DISH, and requires using the DISH app.) The Ducks won again. Undefeated all season and still ranked #1 in the country. GO DUCKS!
Our cocktail hour outside was so pleasant, with so many people laughing, children playing and not one child was whinging. People stopped by to say hello. Nice evening. There were so many gigantic black beetles under our feet. I don't know where they were going or what they were doing, but they were busier than bees.
But as soon as the sun goes down in the desert, the temperatures drop and we went inside to enjoy the salad prepped for our dinner. Happily I remembered to bring the heavy blanket for our bed as the mercury dropped to 49 overnight - and the little space heater was plugged-in first thing this morning. The temp rose to 80 Sunday afternoon.

The golf course was quite busy this afternoon, and we had to wait (and wait) on every hole. When I stepped out of the cart on the third hole, my foot caught the cart path curb and I took a tumble into the fairway, rolling down the hill like a happy child... except I was not happy. Just before I stepped out of the cart, I had asked DT to check the distance to the pin with his range-finder contraption. He said I was 70 yards away. When he came around to help me up, he said I was still 70 yards away. Nobody likes a smart ass, Dave. Dang, due to my poor eyesight, I am always usually so careful as to where I step. Truly lucky that I landed on deep grass. That, with my ample padding, made for a very soft landing for this Old Gal, but I must have scraped my knee on the curb? Can't recall. Blur.

I am a prepared Bubbe, so there was a packet of wet wipes in my tote, and a big bandage! I cleaned it up, slapped on a bandage and thought I would continue playing. But I did not last many more holes. It was soooooo slow, having to wait for ages on every hole, and the throbbing getting worse every minute. (I also had Tylenol in said tote.) I watched My Driver on all his drives and cheered instead of played.
Waiting in the fairway of the 17th hole, we heard all sorts of screaming and shrieking from the green, and a woman sprinted across the hole, shouting. Seems there was a gopher snake the size of Buick crawling around the green! I know a gopher snake will do me no harm, but they are just so dang huge (and this one was the Shaquille O'Neal of gopher snakes; maybe 6 feet?). Her husband went over to the snake with a golf club, and for a second, I thought he was going to club the poor thing to death! No, he used the club to lift the snake up and then picked it up with his hands and carried the innocent slitherer away from his wife's shot. Gallant or dumb? Who knows, but while we were all waiting on the 18th hole, the woman told us her husband knows she is terrified of snakes. Between curbs and snakes, golf is a very dangerous game. Be careful out there, people.
While we were golfing in Borrego Springs, the 4L's were at Sofi Stadium watching the Chargers beat the Titans! So exciting. Leo wore his Oregon Justin Herbert (former Duck QB; current Charger QB) jersey. They had so much fun and one of Leo's best pals, Max, was also at the game.

Another break for me was bringing Salsa Chicken Chili (from the freezer) for our dinner Sunday. Cocktails outside with earlier-prepared guacamole, a bowl of steamy chili, and several fun hands of gin rummy (our 50-year-old game continues, with DT in the lead). Sleep was not easy though. Not due to my bloodied knee, but due to a nearby camper thinking they were Frank Sinatra. They were not. Either that of a cat was in heat a few campsites over. Ugh. Quiet down, Karaoke Kampers!
We packed up this morning and were quickly home and tidied. Since Borrego Springs is just one hour away, it makes for an easy weekend trip.
Tamra and Steve will be here next weekend to golf - and I promise to watch my step!
Until my next update, I remain, your klutzy correspondent.
Campground Information: The Springs at Borrego RV Resort & Golf Course. A very, very nice park. Very clean. Large paved sites, clubhouse, pools & spas (with natural hot springs), laundry, fitness center, small shop with RV supplies/groceries/beer, activities and a regulation 9-hole golf course (that we play twice).
Missed pictures of your food! Your food is always presented so nicely!
Glad you survived!
Hi Terry, have you seen the news about the 2025 ban on motorhomes in CA. Class A, Class B and Class C. The Act regulation is causing a huge uproar in the RV industry. There are more states doing the same and more to come. We decided in July to purchase a 5th wheel with a garage but pull with a Turbo Diesel Ram 3500. Watching and waiting to see how far this spreads and what this means, in total, as they really don’t like anything with a heavy duty combustion engine.
