Giants Lose Again

San Diego, California: Oh well, at least we are not in 115-degree La Quinta?

Today's game started at 1:10, so we had a lazy morning and actually went to a breakfast place down the street.

Did this come from a toaster?

Actually, I'm being kind. That fluffy lump in the middle of the cold waffle was margarine and the cold-from-the-fridge "syrup" was definitely fake as well. I didn't even complain, knowing there was a hotdog in my future plans.

We have been staying at the Omni Hotel, solely because they have a skybridge from the 4th floor directly into the stadium. Dave's Giants buddy recommended the hotel and it is a good choice - and was especially nice as the Giants stayed here as well, and we would get an occasional glimpse of a player. Fun! From this location, a visitor can walk to hundreds of shops and restaurants, or the waterfront. It is also across the street from the Convention Center.

Our view today

The seats we had last night would have been in the sun all day, so I opted for two seats in the Club Section - so happy I did. Completely under cover the entire day, large comfy padded seats and access to a "private" restaurant with everything from hotdogs to fancy shortrib sliders, at dining tables overlooking the field. (All that fancy food and I did, indeed, have a hotdog - and it was hot!) We were just above home plate - though still far away. We had televisions over our head if we needed a closeup of the action.

It was another blow-out, 8-4. The Giants are so bad. Verlander's last game?

We had a rest in our room after the game, then spiffed-up out of our game gear and walked a few blocks to the ferry terminal and rode out to Coronado Island for dinner. Riding the ferry was a new venture for us - no matter how many times we have been to San Diego. $9 one way per person, dogs and bikes welcome. After we left port, there was a bit of a traffic issue crossing to the island:

OOPS!

A massive car carrier was crossing in front of us, so our driver just hung out until it passed. It was about a ten minute delay, but one I am sure all the boats in this channel are used to dealing with.

Kia transport?
Sailing off into the sunset...

I made dinner reservations at Il Fornaio, an upscale Italian chain (mostly) in California. We have dined at other branches before. Nothing outstanding, but it was right at the end of the ferry dock on Coronado!

Then we returned to the ferry terminal where a kind stranger snapped our photo:

Happy Tourists

Walking back to the hotel, it was easy to see how close the Omni Hotel is to Petco Park - the hotel is to the left of the ball park:

Tomorrow our Baby Girl has a birthday, so we are taking a detour to Los Angeles!

Until my next update, I remain, your road-tripping correspondent.
