Sacramento, California: Another not-long travel day. Notice our travel style? Slow and steady. Thing is, with lots of work-out time in the morning (plus The New York Times crossword), we really can barely get out of a campsite by the usual 11a check-out time. It's fine, though this slog up/down I-5 can be a bit wearisome. But yesterday we had golf and today we had baseball!
After arriving to Sacramento, Brother Steve arrived to our campsite (loaded with potatoes, squash, cucumbers, onions, cherry tomatoes, and Santa Rosa plums from their farm) and we went to downtown Sacramento to watch the River Cats baseball game v Oklahoma City Comets. The River Cats are the AAA farm team for the San Francisco Giants, and their stadium - Sutter Health Park - is now being used "temporarily" by the Oakland/Sacramento/Las Vegas Athletic's while they await the construction of their new stadium... which has yet to break-ground in Las Vegas. Fingers crossed.
O.M.G. I just realized if you clicked on every link in the above paragraph, you will be late for work, school, or whatever you should/could have been doing. So sorry.
Ticket prices are extremely reasonable for AAA ball. I paid $22 each for our seats and they were fantastic. Lawn area admission is even cheaper. People (especially kids) like to sit there on the grass as the outfielders and first basemen toss balls out to fans all the time and there is a sweet spot for home runs - another way to snag a souvenir ball. Food and drink are major-league stadium prices though. $17 beer.

Steve posed with the River Cat mascot, Dinger. The kids just love this critter. They lined up to have a photo snapped with Dinger.

My Giants fan, DT, bought a new hat in the River Cat gift shop tonight. I am modeling it for you.
Though the River Cats lost 13-2 (!), it was fun to spend the evening with Steve (we missed you, Gina), fun to see where the A's will be hanging out for the long-run, fun to meet River Cat fans, and it's just always fun to go to a baseball game!
Until my next update, I remain, your "we are going to a Dodger's game next week" correspondent.
Campground Information: Cal Expo RV Park - A great location for any visit to the Sacramento area and close to shopping, restaurants, and access to miles of bike/walking paths along the Sacramento River. Full hookup sites, bath house and laundry. Ask for the back area as it is flat - the front section is sloped and very difficult to get your RV level. Really try to get a reservation - since this campground is attached to the State Fairgrounds, activities (the fair, horse racing, etc) keep it busy. We paid $60.
