Bishop: Nothing to Report

Bishop, California: Happy Juneteenth!

We did have a very nice day, but the camera was not in much use, so this will be a boring post? The temperature rose to the high 90s and it was windy. After riding his bike 14 miles this morning, Dave returned (with the lay-of-the-land) and we both bicycled into town (less than 2 miles) for lunch at the famed Erick Schat's Bakkery - a little bit of Amsterdam in the Sierra Nevada. We waited in line and ordered a turkey sandwich (probably the same dang sandwich we order every time we pass through here) to split. Again, we took our lunch across the street from the bakkery to enjoy at a picnic table in the shade in the city park... and again, we were joined by a foreign traveler - but this time not an opinionated jerk, but a very nice British man on this way from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail. Tom had come into "civilization" for a few days with his trail family and it was so nice to meet him and hear of his adventures. Dave and I had followed Australian Cam Bostock last year on his PTC trek, so were a bit familiar with the course and our sister-in-law, Ali, is a PTC trail angel (a person who houses/feeds/supports/transports hikers) near Sisters, Oregon. You know I gave Tom her digits!

After lunch we went back to our campsite along the back roads - we rode on a (scary-to-me) bike path on Highway 395 into town - and really relaxed (after our terrible drive yesterday) and cleaned-up our RV, bikes, and everything else that was covered in a layer or road dust. I stitched for the first time in three days, and DT took down a few chapters of his book.

Previously, we had dined at a very nice sushi bar in Bishop, Yamatani (no website, just Facebook) and decided to try it again. We were a bit surprised to find such amazing sushi so far from the sea. I had checked the Über and Lyft apps and there seemed to be plenty of cars (with a 20 minute wait). We made a restaurant reservation, dolled-up, and ordered a car. But there were no cars. I could order a car in 50 minutes for $42, but knew a car would never appear and that would have been the most money we've ever spent on an Über.

Guess what? I had everything in our RV for Chicken Katsu (but not a dang thing for sushi), so put two vacuum-sealed cutlets to thaw.

Chicken Katsu in our RV tonight - with sunomono salad

Definitely delicious. Definitely organic and definitely cheaper than going out - nevermind the Über ride.

The 4L's have arrived in Venice, Italy!

Murano, Italy

We continue north in the morning... taking our time... no where to go... nothing to do.

Until my next update, I remain, your ride-share-less correspondent.
