Pacific City, Oregon: Happy Father's Day! Just like Mother's Day this year, we were in our RV and away from Our Only Child. (And Lucile is in DC, away from Lenny.) We are a traveling family, but together so often that every day is Mother's/Father's Day. Lenny, Lisa, and Leo went to the Dodgers game today and saw Shohei Ohtani hit two homers!
Again, really cold overnight and Dave didn't even unlock the bikes this morning. We dropped off the rental car, and we pointed the Petit Peregrinus west. Our drive was just over one hour, without stops (there is nowhere to stop) on Highway 18 until we reached 101 and took a right to reach Pacific City. The campground is very conveniently located, as it is just across the road from the ocean and several good restaurants and the famed Kiwanda Haystack Rock:

So much going on at the beach this Father's Day. Surfers, paragliders, people hiking up the dune (far right) and "surfing" down, picnics, sand castle building. The ocean is too cold for swimming, but people in wetsuits were brave enough to surf and skim board. This is one of the few beaches in Oregon where you can drive a car, due to the local dory boats, that launch from the beach.
After settling-in and checking out the beach, we went to the Pelican Brewing Company across the street from the RV park (and in front of Kiwanda Haystack Rock) for lunch. Fish & Chips, of course. AFTER I had left much of the meal unfinished, the waiter told me they have a menu for Kids & Seniors. Now he tells me.

we've seen a campsite with a (wood-burning) firepit.
School is out in Oregon, so there are a lot of young families here. Tons of bike riding and tons of rabbits being hand-fed baby carrots. So cute! (This is one of the rare times I do not miss my beagle. My arms would have been dislocated by now with that hound pulling on the leash to get those pesky wabbits.) It really is too cold/windy for campfires tonight. As soon as dinner-time came around, it became very quiet as most campers went inside their rigs. Us too. Dave commented that it was 110 degrees at our house today and 55 in Pacific City. Odd? Coincidence?
I'm freezing!

Doryland Pizza is in the same building as the RV park check-in office. We couldn't miss it - and ordered a cheese pizza for our dinner tonight and it was very good. I made a salad. Now we have enough for another meal, so my cooking may be fairly easy this week? Ha.
Until my next update, I remain, your beach correspondent.
Campground Information: Cape Kiwanda RV Park - This is a very old campground, with sewer connections in the grass and old-school electric posts. RV sites are paved, and the picnic tables and firepits are in grass. Many amenities, as they also have a hotel and the RV sites can use the indoor pool/hot tub. Shop, RV supplies, laundry, bath houses, walk to many restaurants and the beach is across the street. There are rabbits everywhere, so be aware if you bring your dog. We are paying about $119 per night for a drive-through site.
