Fort Bragg, California: Another day of driving, but this time we drove all day and didn't cover much territory. Highway 1 on the California Coast is gorgeous, but oh-so slow. Winding roads. Lots of road/bridge reconstruction and a lot of foggy spots - even in June. DT pulled-over numerous times to let cars pass. It was slow-going. We drove just over 100 miles today, and it took us all dang day.
Our first stop was for fuel in Jenner. The pump claimed it was #2 Diesel, so we hoped and filled-up. The rest of the drive was twisty, curvy, bumpy and dangerous. We saw deer, dead skunks, turkey vultures and crows. The only other time we have traversed much of this highway was in the early 2000's with our Suburban, towing a 19-foot trailer (we both agree - our best-ever RV) and DT was pretty sure we were going to jack-knife on every curve. We did not.
At noon, we wanted to stop in Gualala at the Seafood Shack - and we did. Finding this shack was a bit of (not) fun, but we only had to go around one block, return to the highway and follow it to the far north side of Gualala (north of Sea Ranch), crawl into a parking lot sharing (maybe) a lumber yard (?) and auto battery shop (?) to find some of the best fish & chips ever eaten by any member of this family.

It's a walk-up, place your order, get a vibrating disk, and sit down type place. Seating outside. Seating outside. Made no difference. It was so cold outside, it was so cold inside.

Dang if this wasn't some of the best fish and chips ever. I just love fish and chips made with rockfish, so I was happy anyway, but the fact the breading was crispy - not soggy/gummy - and piping hot... well, I was a very happy girl.
For some reason, My Driver switched his order from a bowl of clam chowder to a shrimp salad.

Can't tell you if this was a good thing or a bad thing, as I am allergic to both of his choices. All I know is: I won with my luncheon choice.
The rest of the afternoon was spent driving and driving. Stopping at road construction. Stopping at bridge replacement. But so happy this is all happening in our state (now the 4th economy in the world!). We pulled into Fort Bragg around 4p and checked-into our campsite. A quiet evening. I cooked Filipino food. We are camped on a bluff overlooking the ocean, so enjoyed a nice sunset - while watching the Dodgers on our satellite television.
We have a little adventure planned tomorrow, so check back.
Until my next update, I remain, your Fort Bragg correspondent.
Campground Information: Harbor RV Park - Just a regular RV Park, but on a bluff above the ocean with a paved bike path to a point. Great views. South of town. Grass sites. We paid $55 per night.
