Casino Kids

La Quinta, California: Lenny left so early this morning, I didn't even see him! No worries, we will see him Thursday in Los Angeles.

With such hot temperatures, we decided to try for indoor activities... but we are a sporty/competitive family, so it was decided to go bowling. Dave and I have not been bowling in like forever, but why not? It's just tossing a ball down an alley, right?

One thing the Coachella Valley is not lacking is casinos. Tons of them. Everywhere. We have been once (remember Mary T?) for lunch to one. They are Native American casinos and seem to specialize in boxing matches, concerts, dining, golf, and gaming (of course). We have golfed many times at the course at Fantasy Springs Casino, but they also have a family bowling center. Why not? It is air conditioned.

I was happy to see inside the hotel and casino. It is very nice and well appointed. So many shops and restaurants, a beautiful pool and fitness center. We only walked through the casino (to reach the bowling lanes) but it wasn't too bad in the non-smoking area. Everything was very neat and tidy. We stopped in one of the restaurants - a 50's style diner - for burgers and fries before heading off to change into bowling shoes and get down to business.

Okay. The last sentence was a joke. We cannot bowl. Simply terrible. The three year old in the lane next to us (using some-sort of a contraption that allowed her to simply roll a bowling ball off a plastic hill and had bumpers so her ball couldn't fall into the gutter) was outscoring us all.

That's how bad we were.

Twisty Lucy

Lucy had some sort of curve-ball thing going on. She would roll the ball down the lane and it was surely headed to the gutter, so Lucy would return to her seat. Just as she turned around, the ball would veer-off and head to the center of the pins! This happened a half-dozen times. (If only Lucy could use this skill as a pitcher!)

Family History -
Everyone had two gutter balls in the 2nd. Be jealous.

And poor Bubba had his name misspelled all afternoon.

Turns out, we really lucked out with timing. The Fantasy Springs lanes are usually filled with league games during the day. Somehow we managed to get in two games! Yeah, us!

We had another fun evening at home - watching the Dodgers/Giants games and playing BINGO. I made guacamole, old-school chicken tacos and served the tacos with watermelon.

Before I close for the night, here is a photo Lenny snapped at our late-night pool party yesterday:

Until my next update, I remain, your "not up my alley" correspondent.
