17 April: At Sea

At Sea: We have been somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea between the island of Ibiza (Spain) and the island of Sardinia (Italy) all day. The sea is quite feisty and we have been drunk-walking around the ship all day, even though not drunk.

After several days of serious up-hill/down-hill hiking, I was so happy to have an actual Day of Rest. I tried to walk as little as possible today. A good goal. Dave rode the outdoor bike for an hour this morning, and then walked a mile on the jogging track. Barbie could have surfed in our shower floor this morning, that is how rough the seas were!

By the time we showered and left our room, a proclamation was coming over the ship loudspeaker about an Italian extravaganza in the buffet today. We were headed to one of the fine-dining restaurants, but made a quick detour after hearing the announcement.

Honestly, I cannot even describe the quality of food on this ship. Yes, the buffet still has a salad assortment and a sushi/sashimi bar, but the other stations were 100% Italian.

The Breads!
Cheeses & Charcuterie
Dave and I shared appetizers,
Bruschetta, gorgonzola, grilled veggies, cured beef.
Beef Lasagna and arincinni with mushroom

The usual dessert section has been turned into an Italian dessert spread, with every famous Italian dessert represented.

Italian desserts

Biscotti, Tiramisu, Mimosa cake, almond cookies, cannoli, oh just stop me! This Italian food fest was just so wonderful and a lovely way to introduce us all into our stop in Italy tomorrow - Sardinia!

My view this afternoon

How long have I been working on this canvas? It was with us in November 2024 on our Thanksgiving cruise to Mexico with my Brother and Kris. It is my "purse project" and it has spent more time in my purse, than out. I am stitching this sunglass case for me. (I know, right?) This canvas is so much fun to stitch, not difficult while traveling and I can't wait to finish this half and start the other side - which is a pink cat/leopard.

We didn't do much today. Napping and stitching under a sea-view cabana. The Explora II is traveling at a very slow speed to Cagliari, Sardinia.

Dinner tonight was at the Fil Rouge restaurant, but I didn't even snap photos of our vegan cream of corn soup. Light meals tonight after our Italian food fest.

Sardinia tomorrow.

Pedometer: 5067 steps. Thankfully. You know DT will drag me up to another castle/fort tomorrow.

Until my next update, I remain, your Italian correspondent.
