Golf: Day 1

Borrego Springs, California: It is seriously scorching in the desert this week. Mid-90s (same at home). Dave was up early and out on his bike for an hour and met me in town for the weekly Farmers Market. This market is quite pared-down for even a few years ago. Only two produce stands, a bake shop, the usual middle eastern pita/dip guy, frozen fish from Alaska, beef jerky and a lot of crafts. They had gorgeous strawberries, ripe and red throughout, so a box came home with me. One ruby grapefruit and a head of red butter lettuce. DT wanted to stop by the French-style bakery booth, so we also came home with a baguette and a chocolate croissant (for DT). I had strawberries for my breakfast.

Marcia and Red arrived a bit later and we golfed (the resort has a regulation 9-hole course). The ladies played 9, and the fellows played 18. Marcia and I rested-up in the icy-cold RV air conditioning while waiting for the guys. I gave her a tour of the facilities and this may have been the first RVpark she has ever visited.

Before they returned to the Coachella Valley, we all went to the new restaurant "downtown" Borrego Springs, Michael's. It is in a nice modern building with a bar with sports on the several televisions, a massive menu. We had salads, sandwiches and fish & chips. Everything was good, but WHY the portions are massive.

The microgreens were an unexpected surprise.

After our late lunch/early dinner, our friends went home and we went back to the RV. I still needed a few steps to get my 10000, so off I went, into the setting sun. The golf course was empty and the 9th hole (island green) was lovely in the fading light.

And then I had a shower, a martini and went to bed.

Until my next update, I remain, your 3-putting correspondent.

Campground Information: The Springs at Borrego RV Resort - We have a paved, full-service, pull-through site. There is a table, but oddly no chairs. Paying $90-something a night. This resort has everything (except chairs). Pool, hot tubs, fitness center, library, lots of activities, and a regulation (very decent) nine-hole golf course. Information:
