Princeville, Kauai: Yep, we were up before seven this morning to watch the Ducks beat Texas Tech. The Red Raiders didn’t even score. We had a very odd combo of foods for the Orange Bowl tailgate. Scrambled eggs with spinach and feta, black-eyed peas, cinnamon rolls from a pop-open tube, and slices of fried Spam. (When in Hawaii… but I did not partake.)
After the Indiana v Alabama game later this afternoon, it is determined the #5 Ducks will face #1 Indiana 9 January in the Peach Bowl. Indiana beat Oregon earlier in the season - our only loss. Let’s see if we can figure it all out in eight days.
We packed all the surf gear and headed to the beach after the game. The weather was warm, but it rained for five minutes, then it was sunny for five minutes on repeat for hours. We went to Hanelei Bay and saw Puff the Magic Dragon, but Puff looked like an alligator to us.

Squint and you can see it!
Lucile went out surfing on a boogie board from the rental house. Happily, the rental house also had two large beach umbrellas, because it rained so much. Lenny and Lucile walked out to the end of the pier (phoned above) and jumped off into the sea. Gramps took a video of the jumpers… which also included his finger. Sorry. Old People with camera phones!

After several hours of our stormy beach day, we went to the town of Hanalei, poked-around the shops and had a very late lunch at a place (Tahiti Nui) famous for their mai tai’s (seems every restaurant has the BEST mai tai on the island).

Our evening was pretty quiet. Too full from lunch for dinner, Dave and I stayed home with the kids while their parents had a date night at a local place in this resort. Tomorrow we pack up and move to a hotel on the other side of the island… but of course, Lisa has made plans for a little adventure along the way. Stay tuned.
Until my next update, I remain, your Happy New Year correspondent.
