Why buy hamburger buns? This recipe will make 6 lovely rolls for your burger or favorite sandwich. The buns can be baked on a cookie sheet or order a pan from King Arthur.
1 egg, slightly beaten
¾ cup milk
2 Tablespoons melted butter
½ teaspoon salt
2 1/3 cups white bread flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 Tablespoon sugar
2½ teaspoons yeast
OPTIONAL TOPPINGS:
egg wash, sesame seeds
Add ingredients to bread machine in order listed. Use your bread machine’s fastest dough cycle. After cycle is finished, turn dough out onto lightly floured board and let rest for 10 minutes. Divide dough into 6 equal pieces, roll each piece into a ball and flatten into 4-inch disks. Place 3 or 4 inches apart on oiled cookie sheet (or burger bun pan).
Cover with a dish towel and leave in a warm place to rise for 15 minutes. Brush tops of buns with an egg wash (1 beaten egg with 1 Tablespoon water) and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired. Let rise, uncovered, for an additional 30 minutes and bake for 15-17 minutes at 375º, until tops are golden brown. Remove to wire rack to cool. Makes 6 buns.
