Indio, California: Our fellow Ducks and RV neighbors, Mary & Captain Jim, invited us to join them this afternoon at the Taste of La Quinta Food & Wine Festival. To enter, you buy a 10-punch-card for food and a 5-punch-card for wine and walk through the festival sampling foods from many area restaurants and wine purveyors. Luckily for us, Mary & Jim had been to this festival before, so knew to arrive early before the event sells out!
When we arrived, the entire scene didn’t look like much and not too much was happening.
Thirty minutes later, the place was packed and there were long lines at every booth and fellow tasters were dancing in the streets to live music! We had so much fun! And such wonderful and interesting foods and wines too.
Not to mention the interesting ensembles
One of the most interesting food booths was the Twenty6 restaurant (in the La Quinta Resort & Club). Twenty6 was serving inside-out and backwards foods. They had a root beer float made with vanilla cream soda and root beer ice cream – and spaghetti insidea meat ball. The meatballs were simmering inside this gorgeous copper vat.

Captain Jim samples this particular tidbit. I just can’t figure out how they managed to stuff spaghetti noodles into a meatball – or how the chef even thought to do such a thing. Clever and, according to Jim, delicious.
Stuft Pizza offered veggie or meat lasagna. Complete with a pretty smile.
Dave’s choice for “Best of Show” was the risotto (made by these handsome fellows) from Lavender Bistro.
I can’t make this stuff up. Oregon wine… as in Oregon Ducks. O Wines makes a chardonnay and a pinot noir and their profits provide scholarships to the University of Oregon. How cool is that? And how cool is that we found out about this winery in the California desert? I tell you, everybody loves the Ducks!
(The fact the wine is made in the Great State of Washington in inconsequential.)
One of my favorite Ducks – Mary – lives in Washington. Mary is enjoying a glass of Luna Pinot Grigio.
Another popular booth at the Taste of La Quinta was The Hog’s Breath Inn – which is located in La Quinta and (somehow owned by Clint Eastwood). The Hog’s Breath Inn was serving pulled pork sandwiches topped with crunch Cole slaw.
After our day of food and wine (in the hot sun) we returned to the RV resort for naps. Another great day in the desert.
