Sacramento with Family

Sacramento, California:  After spending the morning with his Mother, Dave and I left Merced Thursday afternoon and continued north on Highway 99 to Sacramento. We met Brother Steve and Gina for dinner at Biba Thursday night. Long one of our favorite restaurants in America, some things have changed at Biba and we were not happy with our dining experience this evening. So sad. We noticed much of the long-time staff were not present. Hmmm.

Friday afternoon we drove out to Lincoln to meet Brother Steve and Gina at Turkey Creek Golf Club for a little putting, chipping and driving. A group of insurance people were having a golf tourney with a tropical theme at Turkey Creek Golf Club. Jimmy Buffett music was blasting. Fruit "punch" was flowing. Golfers were wearing Hawaiian shirts. I felt right at home.

Steve, Dave and Gina - driving

After our golfing adventure, we went to Steve and Gina's ranch.

They have the prettiest property in the foothills with horse fencing, a massive vegetable garden and so many stone-fruit and citrus trees. Farm-to-Table at their house is only a few-step journey.

Their garden is in transition now - switching from winter crops to spring/summer crops. Artichokes and asparagus are finishing. Tomatoes and melons are now in the ground. This garden produces 90% of their food and greens for several local organic restaurants.

Steve grilled steaks for dinner. Gina made a Caesar salad with romaine lettuce from their garden. Dessert was a cherry cheesecake.

After dinner, we enjoyed another gorgeous sunset over their pond.

Until my next update, I remain, your familia correspondent.
