Napa, California: It was deja vu all over again in Napa today. We dined at two restaurants we visited on the same day during a visit in 2012. We are such creatures of habit. At Morimoto, we were even seated along the same wall, under a pretty grapevine "art" piece... and I ordered the exact same food. And the same ginger-cucumber cocktail.
Just for fun:
David and I order the set lunch boxes. He ordered black cod and I ordered Angry (spicy) Chicken. Lunches came with a bowl of miso soup with tofu, a generous serving of tempera vegetables, two pieces of sashimi and three pieces of sushi - along with the main choice (cod and chicken in our cases) on a bowl of rice and veggies. Way too much food.
Luckily for our waistlines, we had walked into town for lunch, as we needed a little walk (it's only 1/2 mile to town) after lunch. One scary note though... as we were crossing a small residential street (in a crosswalk!) on our way to lunch, we walked in front of a sedan stopped at a stop sign. I was past the front of the car, but DT - walking a few steps behind me - came inches from being hit as the driver pushed the gas pedal while Dave was directly in front of the car! DT jumped and yelled. The driver stopped - with a look of shock on his face. He hadn't seen either of us. DT feels if the driver had gunned the engine, he would have been hit by the car. This happens too often to pedestrians. Look both ways, peeps!
Pretty flowers on our walk back to the motorhome after lunch:
This piece of art was installed this morning along the riverfront walkway. Rock. Paper. Scissors. He is a dangerous man.
Our dinner reservations were also in downtown Napa, at Ristorante Allegria. Ristorante Allegria has always been one of our favorite restaurants in Napa. The building - an old imposing bank - is worth the visit. We are not sure why we did not find charm in the establishment this evening. The menu is a bit cut-back, and the salmon they serve is now farmed. (Yuck! So close to the Pacific Ocean? Why?) The beautiful antique wooden bar was filled with men in shorts, t-shirts and baseball caps. Is our society failing without dress codes? When people no longer dress-up to go out? When grown men are wearing baseball hats inside restaurants? (And I don't mean "nice" restaurants. I mean ANY restaurant. McDonald's is a restaurant.)

Repeating old favorites today, but big plans for a new experience tomorrow!
