Not Fooled

Indio, California: I hope none of you were the subject of any pranksters today! I did read a very funny tweet this afternoon - from injured Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware: Manti Teo's girlfriend just came to visit me! I laughed myself silly at that joke.

Anyway, I hope it was an April Fools' joke.

Another great April 1st hoax was Chip Kelly rehired as Oregon's football coach. If only.

My friend reminded me of this April Fool prank from the BBC in 1957. Hard to believe, but spaghetti was basically unknown in England in 1957!

Nothing foolish around here except 20mph winds all morning. The sky is so dusty, we couldn't even see Joshua Tree National Park until nearly 4 o'clock. I just hate wind. It makes me sneeze and makes my eyes water and it makes me grumpy.

Dad and Mary drove over from Yuma this afternoon to spend a few days in the Palm Springs area (in a nearby resort hotel). We will see them several times during their visit and tonight they had dinner at our campsite and we took them on a booze cruise in our golf cart... though it was not a very exciting experience. It was so windy, few campers were out and the dusty winds just did not make for a very enjoyable ride.

Back at our casita, DT and I dropped the screens enclosing our covered pavilion, and we enjoyed a wind-free dinner. Bresaola Salad (air-dried beef over arugula with shaved parmesan cheese and a lemon wedge) before serving Lazy Girl Chicken Soup and My Matzo Balls. Dessert was fresh strawberries with a dollop of sour cream and fresh mint from our "garden". I am so sorry to not take any photos of my family, but we were busy catching-up and after dinner we watched the Seattle Mariners (away v Oakland) win their season opener. Dad, Mary, DT and I are huge Mariner fans - so it was a great celebration.

Mary is learning to bead and made a most gorgeous "Go Ducks" bracelet for me! Classic - loaded with green and yellow beads and Swarovski crystals. A very nice bracelet.

I suggested to Mary that she make a ration of the bracelets to sell at Autzen Stadium and I think her eyes rolled back in her head. I wonder if Mary could make a few more though, for a few special ladies???

Tonight is the last night we observe Passover. In Israel, the holiday is only seven days long... so why is it eight days in the United States? All I know is the holiday will end at sundown tomorrow and will be signaled around here by the ceremonial shaking of the martini shaker filled with (forbidden-during-Passover) gin.

Until my next update, I remain, your not fooled correspondent.
