Indio, California: I’m out ovaling this RV park about the same time the daily on-site garbage/recycling pick-up is scheduled – and I run at such a slow pace, I can re-sort if necessary. Sorry, can’t help myself. It’s an Oregonian thing. We recycle everything.
We recycle our recycling bins.
If only Birkenstock made running shoes!
I can’t help to notice the impressive amount of booze bottles recycled in this resort. A lot. And I am pretty-much a lush, and know about recycling. What surprises me from the recycling pile? The amount of cheap rot-gut wine bottles on the curb. This particularly makes me ponder when I see the skanky stuff outside a two million dollar motorcoach. On the other hand, buying a two million dollar motorcoach would definitely take a bite out of my booze budget. Like all of my booze budget and every other part of every other budget I may pretend to follow.
There are also a considerable amount of pizza boxes being recycled. You all know I love me some pizza. I know it isn’t good for me, but – like a burger – sometimes a girl just wants a slice of pizza!
Directly opposing the number of booze bottles and pizza boxes left on the curb every morning in this RV park is the fact there aren’t very many fat people here. (Your correspondent not included.) Everyone is pretty active. Lots of exercise. Not many smokers either.
Maybe the stacks of recycling occur due to the large gatherings our fellow campers often have on their lots. Entertaining is popular here. Owners put in elaborate outdoor kitchens, massive big screen televisions and gorgeous bars to entertain their friends and neighbors. There is nothing like sitting outside, around a campfire at night… and this scenario is reproduced at the Motorcoach Country Club with a gas fire pit and cocktails instead of wood fires and ‘smores. Sounds good to me!
And don’t forget about cruising up and down the canals in your boat – with a cocktail in hand. There is no outlet. There is no place to go. Top speed limit is 9mph. It’s a cruise to nowhere, but certainly enjoyed by many. Including us!
The biggest party (by far) in this resort is held once a week from 5-6:30p at the restaurant. Every Friday, the cook puts out a spread of free appetizers and lot owners gather for drinks and conversation. The bar and restaurant – and all the patios outside – are packed. The bartenders actually run out of wine and martini glasses!
It isn’t the free meatballs that draw the crowds – it is cash money. The first weekend of the “season” the resort puts $100 in a pot. Every Friday at 6p-ish a lot number is randomly drawn. If you are present when they call your lot number, you get the cash. (Must be present to win!) But (and this is a ◄ BIG BUT) if no one wins, another $100 is added to the bucket. Tomorrow night the pot is $800. The crowds will be massive for the drawing tomorrow.
So this is what I occupy my little brain with while slogging around the resort. My hip is feeling better, but today I hurt my right knee. I’m falling apart.
SLOGGER REPORT: Just an easy 3-mile garbage-inspecting run around the RV resort. I think I just twinged my knee a bit. It felt fine after icing and fine while walking around the rest of the day… unless I was going down steps. I am going to jog another three miles in the morning and then take two days off.
We are heading over to see the kids in Los Angeles for the weekend. There is just a slight possibility of a few photos of The Cutest Grandbaby EVER showing up on these pages.
Until my next update, I remain, your well-padded-herself correspondent.
