Indio, California: DT left me all alone today. I even let him have the car. (To be honest, it was either let him take the car or get up at 7a to drive him to his trustee meeting. No brainer.) I brought my little camera along on my jog this morning because I thought it may amuse you to see my new favorite running route – what it looks like to run around this block:
My run starts at our bus, where I need to travel a half mile to reach the front gate of our RV resort. The first east-west mile is along Avenue 48th. (That’s what they call our street, NOT 48th Avenue… NOT Avenue 48… it is Avenue 48th. Weird.) This is a very pretty stretch. The gorgeous landscaping comes courtesy of The Motorcoach Country Club (and our monthly HOA’s).
The next stretch is along Monroe Street – a half-mile up to Avenue 49th. This portion isn’t very exciting and it has bit of an uphill. I don’t like uphills.
The third stretch is my favorite – one mile, mostly on sandy trails on Avenue 49th. Along this path I usually see a few roadrunners and a few lizards trying to avoid roadrunners. There are several lemon and orange trees along the path and their blossoms smell wondrous.
The next portion of my “run around the block” is another half-mile along Jefferson Street, where there is a lot of traffic, several housing developments and a dude twirling a sign on the corner. All damn day.
And then I finish-up back on Avenue 48th. The white truck is turning into the front entrance of the Motorcoach Country Club.
I turn right into the resort myself, and only have another half-mile back to our RV to complete four miles.
So there you have it – my exciting run. This route is a good way to force myself to cover four miles. It is too easy to sneak back to the RV after running a few miles if I am jogging inside the RV resort. But if I go outside the gates, running around the block… after running a few miles – I still have to run a few miles to get back to the RV.
I’m basically a lazy person. I have to trick myself into fitness.
Isn’t this a gorgeous photo? Look at that clear sky. The air is so still, the canal is as smooth as glass. This photo was taken around 8 o’clock this morning. Did you also notice how clear the skies were during my jog this morning?
Look at the same vista seven hours later:
To say the “wind came up” is an understatement. So much dust is blowing around, it is nearly impossible to see the mountains to the north. The emergency weather radio came on with a wind advisory (though it was fairly freaking obvious already!). Our lawn chairs blew into the street and I had to bring in all the window awnings. Winds are blowing 25 mph, with gusts to 45 mph! I’m getting a little seasick inside this bus.
Oh, oh… DT and I are supposed to attend a fancy-schmantzy outdoor gala this evening… I will report on that outcome tomorrow.
Until my next update, I remain, your “I’m having a bad hair day” correspondent.
