…of the week

Tuesday | 13 October 2020 | La Quinta, California: A little news. I think the "ads dropping down into the copy" on this old blog problem seems to be resolved. The old posts will probably never be repaired, but from now on, the issue should be gone. (Let me know if this is not true for you/your browser.) Never (ever) again will I hire anyone to "help" with my website. They only screw-up everything, wasting what little income this website generates.

More news: the golf course scalping has finished, the reseeding process has started, and the course is getting irrigated like it is November in the Pacific Northwest.

Everyday the grass will become greener. By November, we will be golfing.

Here are a few photos from the week:

Dessert of the Week: Leo asked for a S'mores Pie. I had no idea how to make such a thing, but ordered a graham cracker crust in my Instacart grocery delivery, made a chocolate pudding/ganache-type filling, and toasted tiny marshmallows under the broiler. It worked. The chocolate filling was way too intense for everyone (except Leo), so we each had teeny slivers. Leo was very happy with my effort.

Puzzle of the Week: This fun puzzle, from Mudpuppy, is a two-in-one, printed on both sides. It only has 100 pieces, so Lucy was able to get it together without much help. Very well constructed too - nice thick pieces.

Prize of the Week: Both children received good report cards, and were rewarded with strap-on shark fins for the pool. Who thinks of this stuff? Leo is obsessed with sharks and is in the middle of a large report on the extinct Megalodon shark, including a diorma.

Mexican Meal of the Week: For Mexican Monday, we had an appetizer with smoked tuna, cilantro, jalapeno, red onion, tomato, lime juice and cumin. (Think guacamole, but using tuna instead of avocado.) It is served with tortilla chips and tastes like a smoked ceviche-type thing, yet is made with canned smoked tuna from Fisherman Direct in Gold Beach, Oregon. (This version also had a little diced avocado, but I like it better without the avocado.) We enjoyed cheese enchiladas and fruit salad for dinner.

Not much else going on. School all day. Swimming all afternoon. Until my next update, I remain, your busy correspondent.

  1. I’m seeing any ads now at the bottom of the page no longer interspersed with your wonderful writing and photos. I even went back and it seems that is the case for all entries. I view on a desktop with Chrome. Oh, that pie! I guess there is such a thing as too much chocolate. Maybe try it again but “Baked Alaska” style with Rocky Road ice cream as the filling? Way to go Leo & Lucy! Keep up the good work.
